LG @ CES 2014

The much awaited CES 2014 is on and running where LG, as usual, took the first slot of the first day to announce some of its latest creations and ideas with the tech world. Starting with the much anticipated LG G Flex which will be rolling out with AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint in a couple of months time.

LG G Flex

The LG G Flex is a six inch curvy smartphone which is actually curved in such a way that it perfectly fits in the palm of one’s hand and can be used at ease when placed on a table because the phone can be pressed flat on a smooth table, thanks to flexible OLED plastic display. Once your work is done on a table you can actually move it back to its curvy shape. [Warning: Although it sounds fun but in reality the phone is not designed to flex constantly; so bend it at your own risk!!] The magic of G Flex doesn’t end there; the back of this delicate masterpiece is coated with a self-healing coating which will withstand the day to day scratches due to the wear and tear and like the LG G2 there are rear control buttons for power and volume right below the camera lens.

This handy magician is powered by 2.26 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor and is further supported by 2GB of RAM and 32GB of Internal storage with no expansion slot. It possesses a 13 mega-pixel camera with LED flash at the back and a 2.1 mega-pixel front camera capable of shooting videos at 1080p. The power source is a non-removable curvy 3,500 mAh battery. The LG G Flex is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2014 and as of yet not pricing information is available.

Moving on to the next part and that is none other than a TV; well, it’s not just a TV it is The World’s Largest 4K OLED TV (as of yet, because I’m quite sure some other company will break the record some day or other!). The 77EC9800, the newest member of the LG family is a giant 77” diagonal screen with pixel resolution of 3840 x 2160! This slightly curved OLED TV and the other sets of TV features an upgraded LG Motion Remote along with HEVC decoding and HDMI 2.0 port.

While most of the details including the price are yet to be known we can be sure of one thing that this won’t come as a ‘budget TV’. The TVs are expected to be available in June 2014.

Throughout the last quarter of the year 2013, we’ve seen a handful of wearable gadgets but it was an open secret that every company is working on some kind of wearable gadgets that are to be flooded in 2014 and here it is. In CES 2014, LG brought out its Life Band Touch, a high-tech Bluetooth (4.0) enabled water-resistant personal ‘health supervisor’ capable of keeping track of distance walked/runs, step counts, workouts, calorie consumption etc. The LG Life Band Touch also comes with a special earphone known as the Heart Rate Earphone. With the help of optical sensor technology, this earphone will determine the heart rate by monitoring the blood flows in the user’s ear.

The LG Life Band Touch will further help you notify any incoming calls and text notifications through its LED screen. The device accompanies apps for both Android and iOS which will display all the necessary fitness information and advice. The Life Band Touch comes only in black color and as for the pricing, it is yet to be known.
