Sony Launches Xperia C3 – With The World’s Best Selfie Camera

The word “selfie” was once a part of street and informal lingo and was officially incorporated into the Oxford Dictionary recently whilst also being awarded the “Word of the Year” for 2013. In today’s times, selfies have grown to incorporate a major portion of the social media culture, which in fact would be incomplete without the omnipresent selfie. At Google I/O we learned that 93 million selfies are taken daily using just Android devices! That number is increasing every minute, hence Sony has taken it upon itself to cater to the growing selfie market with their newly announced Xperia C3.

The Sony Xperia C3 is a midrange device with decent specifications but we will get into that later, first let us take a look at the star attraction – the front facing camera. Sony is calling its secondary camera a “PROselfie cam” which is essentially a 5-megapixel wide angle camera with an 80 degree field of view to allow more people to fit into a single shot. There is also a front facing “soft LED flash” that will be used to provide the best lighting conditions without making you blind! The PROselfie cam features a Superior Auto mode that automatically selects the best settings based on the scene as well as an HDR mode, a first for front facing cameras. Aside from these, Sony has bundled a whole bunch of software features which can all be seen in the video.

Moving on, the Xperia C3 follows Sony’s tried and tested design language which in my opinion is getting a bit old now. Nevertheless, the compact 7.6mm body weighing 150 grams should offer comfortable usage given that it sports such a large display.

On the front of the device along with the PROselfie cam we have an HD (1280 x 720p) 5.5-inch IPS LCD panel and on the back there is an 8-megapixel camera. Inside, the smartphone packs a 1.2GHz quad core Snapdragon processor backed by 1GB and 8GB built in storage. The device is powered by a 2500-mAh battery and comes with support for 4G LTE. The Sony Xperia C3 will come with Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box in black, white and mint colour with no word yet on pricing.
