Mozilla FireFox

Firefox users, update your browser right now!

Use Firefox? Maybe before reading this article, you should head towards the update section for your browser and update it ASAP.

In a blog post, Mozilla announced that an user in Russia had found an exploit in the browser which has kept the Linux and Windows users at high risk.

The user found a bug in a pop-up that was placed in a Russian news site. The pop-up, in disguise, searched for sensitive files and uploaded them to a server in Ukraine. Makes more sense since there’s a lot of problem occurring between the two countries.

According to Mozilla, “The vulnerability comes from the interaction of the mechanism that enforces JavaScript context separation (the “same origin policy”) and Firefox’s PDF Viewer”

“Mozilla products that don’t contain the PDF Viewer, such as Firefox for Android, are not vulnerable.”

The type of files and softwares that are targeted are explained in details  that are prone to attack in the blogpost. However it seemed that Mac is out of target at this moment. Another way to remain unaffected is to have a good ad-blocker installed in the browser.

There’s nothing to worry about since Mozilla already has a fix with the new update and urges all users to update to Firefox 39.0.3.
