Xiaomi has launched the latest addition to its smartphone line, the Xiaomi Mi 5, at Mobile World Congress 2016. On the second day of this week-long event, Xiaomi introduced the new flagship and revealed all the features of the Mi 5 to the press.
The smartphone is likely to be a little big for one’s palm with a 5.5″ inch full HD 1080p display yet the phone remains lightweight at 129 grams. The feature that has been receiving vital attention is the Mi 5’s Snapdragon 820 processor. It comes in three different flash memory variants – 128 GB, 64 GB and 32 GB units respectively. While the processors of 128 GB and 64 GB variants are clocked at 2.15GHz, the 32 GB variant has it at 1.8GHz. The smartphone also packs a 4GB LPDDR4 RAM to support the Snapdragon.
The device is sporting a 16 MP rear camera unit with 4 axis OIS and pixel-to-pixel isolation technology. We haven’t had the chance to test it out yet but with these specs, we expect nothing but fine image quality. The front camera is a 4 megapixel unit.
The specs of the Mi 5 just gets better with the built in fingerprint scanner. This is the first of Xiaomi phones to have it. Xiaomi also added a home button to its front for the ease of its users.
As another added perk, the 128 GB Mi 5 pro comes with a ceramic back cover to provide durability and protection from water.
While all these fancy features are dropping jaws, the 3000mAh battery it comes with seems quite a match to its heavy configuration. It looks like Xiaomi hasn’t forgotten about upping their game where it matters the most.
Last but not the least, as for OS, the Mi 5 runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0 and will receive software updates.
Pricing of the Mi 5 variants range from $265 to $360.
