Samsung Galaxy S7 vs Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro

The announcement of Xiaomi Mi 5 was timely and strategically perfect! With both LG and Samsung unveiling their flagship devices this year, Xiaomi comes in at the last and drops the bomb! A premium smartphone, Xiaomi Mi 5, at a very low price compared to Samsung Galaxy S7. Here, we’re looking at the pair to see what sets them apart from each other.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with a 3D ceramic back that has rounded edges making it very easy to hold. The Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro has the latest hard ceramic technology which could be a standard for the new phone builds that will come in the upcoming days. The home button situated at the bottom center features the long awaited fingerprint scanner. In our perspective, having the scanner at the back makes it much more easier to unlock the phone. The camera does not protrude out of the body and is tucked well inside the body.

The Galaxy S7 on the other hand takes the similar design language of the previous Galaxy S6. With aluminum sides, the device is protected by the Gorilla Glass 4. The camera for this phone is also tucked inside but sticks out a lil. Good thing the Galaxy S7 comes with a waterproof certificate!

Display: Xiaomi Mi 5 vs Galaxy S7

The Xiaomi Mi 5 features a 5.15 inch IPS 1080P Full HD Display which nearly covers the front of the phone having very thin bezels. As for the Galaxy S7, it comes with a 5.1 iinch QHD with a whopping resolution of 2,560 x 1,440! The Galaxy S7’s display is so crisp and detailed that it does deserve to get the title of the best display.

Samsung Galaxy S7 comes with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with a new TouchWiz User Interface with around 25 pre-installed apps on the phone. 25 Apps seem to be a lot!

On the other hand, the Xiaomi Mi 5 comes with MIUI 7 Pre-installed which is based on the Android 6.0 Marshmallow!

The Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro comes with MIUI 7 pre-installed. This software is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

Xiaomi Mi 5 carries a 3,000 mAh powered battery and claims that it can be charged upto 90 percent in an hour using the Quick Charge 3.0

Samsung Galaxy S7 also carries a 3,000 mAh powered battery and takes 90 minutes to charge fully.

The main camera of the Galaxy S7 is 12MP with its front being 5MP. The phone uses an f/1.7 aperture lens which firmly boosts its low light performance and can also shoot 4K videos in fast or slow motion.

Xiaomi brought a new addition to their camera, a 4-axis optical image stabilization system for producing clearer and sharper pictures. The devices has a 16MP camera at the rear with a 4MP at the front using Sony IMX 298 sensor.

Performance: Xiaomi Mi 5 vs Galaxy S7

The Samsung Galaxy S7 is armed with an octa-core CPU processor with four cores clocked at 2.3GHz and another version having 4 cores at 1.6GHz. Backed up with 4GB of RAM, it means the Galaxy S7 should be able to handle almost anything that’s done with it.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro is equipped with a Snapdragon 820 chipset backed up with a 4GB of RAM. It comes with a 128GB of space and does not sport a microSD slot as we see a return of this feature in the Galaxy S7.

The Galaxy S7 is one powerful smartphone with great new features in a sophisticated design. After the unveiling of Galaxy S7, Xiaomi’s announcement of the Mi 5 literally did cause Samsung to sweat (and other brands as well) because the device was almost at par with the S7 certainly to be at very low price. The Mi 5 outpaces the Galaxy S7 in many ways which includes more memory space, strong build and a new camera technology.

Pre-order for the Galaxy S7 would range from $649 to $694 whereas the Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro would carry a price tag of $413.
