iPhones are expensive and it’s important that you can get the most out of the Apple device that you have bought with your hard earned money.

So this article will outline some ways in which you can maximize battery life and lifespan of your iPhone.

Update to the latest version of iOS.

Apple Updates come with advanced energy-saving technologies so make sure you have your iPhone regularly updated.

Here is how you can update your iOS- https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204204

Avoid Extreme Surrounding Temperatures.

An iPhone is designed to perform well in a wide range of surrounding temperatures with 0° to 35° C as the ideal temperature range. Make sure to not expose your phone to surrounding temperatures around higher than 35°C which can permanently have a detrimental effect on your battery capacity and as a result not power your battery as long on a given amount of charge. Charging the phone in such a temperature will also damage your battery further.

Like with higher temperatures, battery life is also negatively impacted when an iPhone is used in a cold environment as you will notice a decrease in battery life. However, the effect in this case is temporary as when you return to the ideal temperature range, the battery’s performance will return to normal.

Remove Specific Cases on The Phone During Charging

Charging your phone when it is inside a specific style of case can result in the generation of excess heat which may lead to higher temperatures and therefore damage your iPhone battery capacity. If you notice your phone becoming hot during the charging process, take off the case for the period of time you charge your phone to avoid irreversible battery damage. Make sure to avoid knock-off chargers and if possible charge your device with the charger that comes with the phone.

Storing an iPhone Half Charged When You Store it For a Long Period of Time

It is important to understand two key factors that will determine the overall health of your battery when you stop using it and  store it away for future use- A suitable environmental temperature and the percentage of charge that is stored on your battery when it is stored. When stored in a fully discharged state, the battery will lose its capability to store charge and therefore the battery will be rendered useless.

Alternatively, if stored in a fully charged state, the battery will lose some of its charge storing capability leading to a shorter battery life. To avoid these problems, make sure you charge your iPhone device upto 50% and then turn your device off before you store it away.Needless to say, you should store it at an appropriate temperature such as the range stated above. After it’s removed from storage, it may require 20 minutes of charging with the original adapter before you can use it.

Optimize Your Settings.

You can adjust your screen brightness and Wi-Fi Settings to preserve precious battery life. You can dim your screen( setting brightness level to the lowest) or use Auto-Brightness. To dim, open Control Centre and drag the brightness slider to the lowest.Auto-Brightness adjusts your screen to lighting conditions automatically. To activate it, go to Settings > Accessibility. Tap Display & Text Size, then turn on Auto-Brightness. If possible, Use Wifi to access the internet instead of a Cellular network  as a Wifi connection uses less power.

Use Battery Usage Information.

With iOS, you can easily monitor your device’s battery life by viewing the proportion of battery used by the apps in use. To access this, go to settings>battery. Some apps may run in the background while you are using another app such as Apple Music and you can prevent this by going to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and selecting Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi & Cellular Data to turn off Background App Refresh entirely.

You can also turn off location services when they are not needed to save some extra battery life.If an app frequently wakes your display with notifications, it can lead to consumption of battery life. You can prevent this by turning off push notifications for the app in Settings > Notifications. Tap the app and set Allow Notifications to Off. You can also turn on Airplane mode when you are in a low coverage area to save some battery life as your iPhone would be searching for a better signal which may lead to some battery usage.
