Everyone who owns an iPhone knows the struggle of keeping it’s storage empty. You take a few pictures one day and suddenly your whole storage is full. But there might be other things taking up space on your phone that you didn’t even know about. So here are a few ways you can clear up space on your iPhone without having to delete every single thing.
Delete Texts
Your iPhone will have your texts on storage forever unless you change the settings. Although this feature is necessary sometimes, it’s the easiest way to clear up a lot of space on your phone. To stop saving your texts forever go to Settings>Messages then scroll down and you’ll see Message history>Keep messages. Then you’ll see you have the option to keep your messages for 30 days, 1 year or forever. Change Forever to 30 Days or 1 Year and your messages will be automatically deleted after that time period.
Clear Browser History
A lot of people don’t notice this, but your browser history and cache is also taking up space on your phone. So take the time and delete your browser history every few days to save up a lot of space. To delete history go to Settings>Safari and tap on “Clear History and Website Data” which will clear up all your previously visited websites.
Delete Unnecessary Apps
There’s probably many apps on your phone that you downloaded at some point in your life when you felt that you needed them. But you clearly don’t anymore. Delete them, it’s the simplest way to clear a large amount of space from your phone. You can check which apps are taking up how much space from Settings>iPhone Storage.
Clear Space With Recommendations
For iPhones with iOS 11 and later, your phone can help you save up space. iPhone will give you tips on how to maximize your storage by deleting contents or apps that you don’t need. To avail this go to Settings>General>iPhone Storage. Scroll down to the recommendation section and see the tips!
Turn Off Photo Stream
Photo Stream photos are just the same photo taken multiple times. Even though they might seem harmless, if every single one of your photos has Photo Stream then that’s a lot of space. You don’t need the same photo multiple times, so to turn this off go to Settings>Photos & Camera where you’ll see an option “Upload to My Photo Stream” and turn that off.
Delete Downloaded Music
During this time and place, no one really needs to have downloaded music. And These downloaded songs take up a lot of space on your phone. With apps like Spotify, Deezer, Youtube Music etc you don’t have a need to keep your music on your phone. Go to Settings>General>Storage and iCloud Usage>Manage Storage and scroll till you find Apple Music. You can individually delete songs or swipe “All Songs” to delete all of them at once.
Stop Saving Double Photos
If your phone’s HDR is on then chances are that it’s saving two of the same photos, one in normal mode and the other in HDR. To stop this from happening go to Settings>Photos & Camera. Then scroll down till you find the option “Keep Normal Photo” and turn it off for both Portrait mode and HDR.
Hopefully with these few tips, your iPhone won’t keep showing you the “iPhone Storage Full” popup before every update. Maximize your iPhone storage as much as possible with these tips and you won’t have to worry about that popup for a very long time.
