Jute Fibre Formula One Racing Car Created By KUET Students

Khulna University of Engineering and Technology or more commonly known as KUET is one of the leading technology universities of Bangladesh. A team of 28 students were trained to build this one of a kind car!

The Car

The car is named “Kiloflight Alpha” and is made with jute fibre technology. So it is environment friendly as well! The car was created to be submitted to the Formula Student UK online event. The team had to work for 3 years straight to build this car and participate in the competition. The car has a modern engine, gear, break and meter. It can go upto 162km/h.

Team “Kiloflight” was the only team to participate in this competition from Bangladesh. In total there were participants from 64 countries. Due to the global pandemic, the team had to participate online but still managed to secure 33rd position in the global event. 

Response from the students and faculty

The leader of the team Erfan Islam said that the project was funded by the students and alumni. The team’s academic advisor, Prof Dr Muhammad Masud said that the team had received special training just to build this car. A second year student of KUET, Amlan Biswas said that the car was modeled targeting the formula student UK event. Mechanical Engineering Department Chairman Prof Dr Md Saidul Islam expressed his wishes to send the team to participate physically in the competition in England next year. 

This is said to be a huge step forward for the automobile sector of Bangladesh.
