Youtube Sanctioned Bot for Discord Music (Sort of?)

Google owned Youtube recently forced two largely popular music bots Groovy and Rythm to suddenly shut down. This obviously resulted in a huge outrage from regular discord users. In order to bring back music to its users, Discord reportedly started testing a Youtube sanctioned music bot.

What is this new feature?

The new feature which will be approved by Youtube available on Discord is called “Watch Together” which is similar to the experience of sharing screens. The button for this feature will appear beside the screen sharing option. Through this you can stream a video through Youtube itself and watch it with all your friends. This may be a music video or any other type of video.

Even though this is not the same as the previous music bots which solely played music, it is a good effort on Discord’s part to bring back music to its users.

Pros and Cons

This feature will allow you to listen to any music available on Youtube with your friends on Discord. But we all know about the Youtube ads. These ads may pop up while streaming a music video or any other video. So even though you can listen to music on discord again but you have to sit through ads in between it.

How does it work?

Clicking on the Watch Together button will show a Youtube interface on the left side of the screen. From this, users can directly create playlists and stream videos on Discord through Youtube.

Even though it’s not the same as Groovy or Rythm, it is a way for Discord to bring back music without it being abruptly shut down by Google overnight. The feature is expected to be available to all Discord users by the end of October 2021.
